There are two ways you can build your SMMA or Marketing Agency:
- Going through revenue waves like a yo-yo,
- Having a smooth and sustainable growth over months
Which one would you prefer?
I go with option 2, not only for my own agency but that’s what I want for all my clients and students.
- It’s less stressful, because you know every month you have a strong cashflow coming in
- It’s predictable so making business decisions is easier
- It’s more fun to build the agency this way as you see your growth every month
That’s a number one of my 1-on-1 agency students hit in June after 6 months of mentorship.
Here was the process:
Work, work, work… no result,
Work, work, work… ah, almost got it!
Work, work, work… I’m getting better,
Work, work, work… no result,
Work, work, work… I can’t do this,
Work, work, work… BOOM, new clients!
Not to mention, this specific client came with 12 years of corporate experience marketing and selling products online.
Overnight success, right?

One of the biggest trends I see from 100+ agency owners I crossed paths is that they don’t want it bad enough!
They get into the space because it’s a ridiculously low-barrier entry industry.
They find some success in their agency,
They get some clients under their belt,
And then hit the wall and give up after a few months of scaling.
I know so many agencies that gave up after 3 months of work.
Why?
Client Acquisition and Retention:
If running ads and selling a few agency packages here and then would make you a million-dollar agency…
Then everyone would have been a millionaire by now.
Getting new clients is one thing but retaining them is a whole different game.
It’s not mainly about getting 10 clients, it’s about tightening up your processes to be able to handle that volume…
While still catering to your existing clients.
As the agency scales up, maintaining a steady stream of clients becomes more challenging, exactly because there is a leak in the process and delivery.
Talent Acquisition and Training:
At scale, agencies need to expand their team to handle increasing workloads and diverse client demands.
Finding skilled and experienced marketing professionals who align with the agency’s values and culture can be daunting.
Moreover, training new employees to match the agency’s standards and provide high-quality services is time-consuming and resource-intensive.
Without the right talent, scaling becomes even more challenging.
Consistency and Quality Control:
Maintaining consistent and high-quality service delivery becomes more complex as the agency scales up.
Ensuring that all projects meet the agency’s standards and that each team member follows established processes requires robust quality control measures.
Inconsistent service delivery can lead to dissatisfied clients and damage the agency’s reputation, making it harder to grow and retain clients.
Overall…
Scaling is hard.
And all the planning, strategy, and framework are 30% of the work.
70% is YOU.
You’re the one who must implement, build and go through trenches.
If scaling your agency gets uncomfortable,
Just know that’s exactly what hard feels like.
Have a great rest of the week.
Ah… before I end this post, I’m building a brand new blueprint revealing our new Client Getting System for agency owners…
This should be released to my list this month.
Watch the space!
